PSPE and the I.B. at JIS

In our ever changing, complex world we believe it is important to equip our students with the skills, attitudes and knowledge that will help them manage their own world and support those around them. With that  in mind we spend a lot of time and energy on our personal, social and physical education programme (PSPE) in line with the requirements of the I.B. and our own personal planning and goals.

'PSPE in the I.B. Primary Years Programme (PYP) is concerned with the individual's well-being through the promotion and development of concepts, knowledge, attitudes and skills that contribute to this well-being. Well-being is intrinsically linked to all aspects of a student's experience at school and beyond. It encompasses physical, emotional, cognitive, spiritual and social health and development, and contributes to an understanding of self, to developing and maintaining relationships with others, and to participation in an active, healthy lifestyle.'

(I.B. Scope and Sequence - Personal, Social and Physical Education)

Through the I.B. Scope and Sequence students are taught using 3 strands of learning: Identity, Active living and Interactions. There are connections made through the units of inquiry that the students study and also transdisciplinary links to many areas of learning and understanding.

At JIS we believe that students are better learners when they have the skills and awareness of their own needs and also the needs of those around them. We spend a great deal of time listening to and working alongside our students. We use our 3 core values 'Respect, Commitment and Kindness' as an integral part  of all our teaching and learning. We explore their meaning, application and consequence through many different activities within the school.
